Answer: C

Steam reforming of methane over a nickel catalyst at about 1273 K gives carbon monoxide and dihydrogen (synthesis gas): CH4 + H2O → CO + 3H2. This is the industrial route to dihydrogen. The other options do not match the primary products of this reaction. Why the other options are wrong: - (A) Wrong: H2O is a reactant, not the product. - (B) Wrong: CO2/H2 form in the later water-gas shift step, not the primary reaction. - (D) Wrong: these are neither the correct products.
