Anatomy of Flowering Plants

Inside the plant, you meet meristematic and permanent tissues, the three tissue systems, and the internal structure of dicot and monocot roots, stems, and leaves. Diagram and recall questions dominate: identify a section, a labelled tissue, or a dicot versus monocot difference.

Weightage: what the paper actually did

Anatomy of Flowering Plants carried 2 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

The main function of bulliform cells in grasses is :
  1. A.to make the leaf impermeable to fungal spores.
  2. B.to transport water.
  3. C.to perform photosynthesis.
  4. D.to minimize water loss during water stress.
Answer and explanation

Answer: D

Bulliform cells are large, empty, colourless epidermal cells in grass leaves. Under water stress they lose turgor and become flaccid, making the leaf roll or fold inward, which reduces the exposed surface area and thus minimizes transpirational water loss. Why the other options are wrong: - (A) They do not act as a barrier against fungal spores. - (B) Water transport is the role of xylem, not bulliform cells. - (C) Being colourless and lacking chloroplasts, they cannot photosynthesise.
